The History of Duct tape

Duct tape is a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape used for a variety of purposes. It is often used to seal air ducts, but can also be used for a variety of other tasks such as holding together pieces of wood or metal, or as a temporary repair for leaking pipes.

Duct tape was first developed in the early 1940s by Johnson & Johnson, who were looking for a way to create an airtight seal for their medical products. The original tape was made from cotton duck cloth coated with rubber-based adhesive. This early version of Duct tape was not very strong and would often fall apart when applied to surfaces.

In 1942, Revolite, another company, began selling a stronger version of Duct tape made with polyethylene plastic instead of cloth. This new type of Duct tape was much more durable and could be applied to rough surfaces like concrete or brick without falling apart.

During World War II, both Revolite and Johnson & Johnson's tapes were used by the military to seal ammunition cases and repair equipment. After the war, Duct tape became widely available to consumers and has since become an essential item in many households.
